Paying Your Property Taxes

The department of property tax accepts the following payments types: cash, checks, e-checks, money orders and credit/debit cards.

Cash payments

All cash payments must be submitted in person

Check Payments

Make checks payable to the Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner with funds on deposit in the United States.

  • If you pay with a check, keep in mind that checks are processed, deposited and debited from your account very quickly, usually the next business day. Before you write a check, make sure your account has enough money to cover it.

  • If your check is dishonored by the bank, a service fee is assessed in accordance to state law and federal guidelines. In providing a check as payment, you authorize electronic representation if your check should return unpaid. Also, you authorize service charges and processing fees, as determined by law, to be debited from the same account via paper draft or electronic funds transfer. Collection efforts may be made by a third-party company, Envision Payment Solutions, acting on behalf of the tax commissioner's office.

Note: We do not accept counter checks, two-party checks, or post-dated checks.

Return Checks

  • Any returned payments will incur fees and will be collected by our third party vendor,
    Envision Payment Solutions.

Credit card payment can be made online or over the counter at any tax commissioner office using VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, or Discover. Using a credit card incurs a convenience fee of 2.30% (minimum $1).

VISA, MasterCard and Discover debit cards are accepted online and over the counter at any tax commissioner office for a flat fee of $3.50.

Tag offices only process property tax payments and provide receipts. The main property tax office at the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center processes payments and handles all other property tax-related transactions.

Why is there a convenience fee?

Convenience fees cover the cost of processing a credit or debit card transaction. The fee is paid directly to the merchant and is not retained by the tax commissioner’s office. These convenience fees allow the tax commissioner’s office to offer credit and debit card options for payment of property taxes.

When submitting payment through the mail, include your payment stub. If you do not have one, reference your parcel ID or property address on the check or money order. Include a phone number when submitting payment without a stub.
